One of the factors that determine if a science is accepted as that by the scientific society is the existence of an established terminology that is generically-used by the involved professional sector. The existence of an accepted terminology is also implying the preexistence of a conceptual structure of that science. The establishment of an accepted terminology will guarantee the precision and univocal use strictly in the professional communication, hence the International Standard Nomenclature Chinese ? Spanish version will become very important for TCM practitioners of all Spanish-speaking countries that currently sum up more than 400 million people, being the 3rd language in the world after Chinese and English.

The 16th of July, 2008, the European Foundation of TCM of Spain was invited to lead and coordinate the ISN Chinese-Spanish project by the directors of the WFCMS.

The 24th of October, 2008, after some meetings, the COLLABORATION AGREEMENT was signed to enhance the development of the ISN Chinese-Spanish project.

The 7th of November, 2008, the WORK COMMITTEE for the development of the ISN Chinese-Spanish was constituted in Barcelona (Spain). This Committee was made up of 16 people, it was directed by Dr. Ramón Mª Calduch and coordinated by Prof. Mireia Masip. There was an established planning of all tasks involved in the elaboration of the Methodology and the Principles of Translation of the ISN Spanish version. There was another established planning for the tasks involved in the process of design of a virtual space that will be accessible by a login and a password through the web site of the European Foundation of TCM. In the mentioned virtual space there will be established the terms to translate, following the established methodology and principles of translation. The different experts will be able to propose the terms in Spanish as the translation from Chinese or revise the suitability of the translations done by others. There will be created a forum so all experts will be able to give their opinion.

The 13th of January, 2009, after its elaboration and after some revisions, the “Methodology and Principles of Translation of the ISN Spanish version” is handled to the WFCMS Revising Committee. The 13th of February, 2009, we receive some suggestions to improve the handled draft. From that moment on, there has been a fluent contact, and there have been done some corrections and improvements, being in the final stage of the process.

In parallel there has already been created the web site with more than 6.000 terms in Chinese and Pinyin to translate and the forum for opinions, which will be active once the “Methodology and Principles of Translation” is approved.

All tasks are to be carried out, in all cases, before the end of 2009, so the draft for revision will be sent to WFCMS Translation Department, who will revise it and once completed. It will be introduced in 2010 in a meeting of WFCMS Council Board for discussion and approval, if adequate.
